Wednesday night some BHS students (possibly grads) doused police cruisers with white paint. 8 cars were tagged in all.

Ok so I guess I’m suppose to give my self a grade on my blog (B) and explain why. Well why I gave my self a B is because I only make one or two mistakes in my entire blog. My strengths are that my posts give everyone the chance to share there side of the story. Some more strengths are being able to share my opinion in a sometimes calm and collective matter and write a descent amount on each post.What would draw someone back if they were a visiting reader is if you like sports of any kind whether it be baseball (mariners) football (seahawks) soccer you can talk about it here after I decide to post it. Plus if you like to trash a team in a semi respectable way then come on down.

Now I guess I also have to talk about the drawbacks and my weakness in my blog. My weakness is that this blog is about one thing and one thing only and that’s sports most peoples blogs like for example Erin’s blog talks about softball as well as summer planning etc. My other weakness is not checking for errors. If I was a blog review I would just say be a little more open to things besides sports but sports is my life.

What I learned from my blog is to express my thoughts on sports in a semi nice manner. A blog is different from a journal in that its like written schedule of what you did but my blog is about what other people do and I give my thoughts. And yes I will keep my blog goin because it would be cool for everyone to share what they are doing over the summer.

If you’re a Mariners fan you never know what you’re gonna get (Forrest Gump). Yesterday against the Redsox the Mariners had better luck than the 08 Sonics had in the NBA draft (they were suppose to get the # 2 pick but they got the #4 pick saying that they didn’t have a lot of luck). The Mariners got three runs off of Dice-K who was 8-0 in his first 9 starts. Dice-K left in the 4th innings with an “apparent injury”. Mariners pitcher Miguel Batista who led the Mariners w/15 wins last season this year it 3-6 in his first 9 starts. Miguel also gave up three runs but Miguel lasted seven innings and striking out 2.

I would just like to take the time to thank the Seattle Mariners including the front office and not just for this year but for about three to four years of below average baseball (04-08 except for last season). Now don’t get me wrong the Mariners front office have made some good moves but the bad over shadows the good. The Mariners were very good from 2001 in which they won 116 games to 2003 and during that time the Mariners won more than 90 games during the regular season. Since then the Mariners highest win total in the regular season is 88. Now in the 2004 off-season the Mariners released RP Kazuhiro Sasaki who was a big part of the Mariners 116 win season when he saved 45 games and struck out 62 batters in 69 appearances. The Mariners also traded short stop Carlos Guillen to the Detroit Tigers and that it were he still plays today .In addition to that the Mariners also signed first baseman Ritchie Sexson and third baseman Adrian Beltre who are both still with the team. Now in the 2005 off-season the Mariners signed the Cuban expat Yuniesky Betencourt who is still on the current Seattle Mariners roster and a big part of last season 88 win team. They also selected RP Ryan Rowland-Smith who is still on the team and a very good relief pitcher. The Mariners also selected catcher Jeff Clement with the third pick in the MLB draft. And to add on to thar they signed pitcher Jarrod Washburn to a four year contract. Now in the 2006/2007 off-season the Mariners signed OF Jose Guillen to a one year contract, they signed pitcher Miguel Batista who won 16 games in the Mariners 2007 88 win season and traded for Jose Vidro. And now in 2008 after the Mariners big season the Mariners went out and signed pitcher Carlos Silva to a four year contract and traded for Ace pitcher Erik Bedard. Now in the Bedard deal the Mariners Gave up OF Adam Jones who was there #1 pick in 2003, relief pitcher George Sherrill who was a big part of the Mariners strong bullpin in 07 and three minor league relief pitchers. And to add on top of that they didn’t resign RF Jose Guillen who hit 23 home runs and was a big part of the Mariners offence in 2007. So they made there starting pitching rotation better with Bedard and Silva but weakened there bull pin and out field. Well at least they resigned Ichiro. And that’s how you go from a 116 win team to a 60 win team to a 88 win team to a 18 and falling team.

Seahawks linebacker Lofa Tatupu was arrested for DUI this passed Saturday. He blew a .158 on the alcohol which is twice the legal limit.

After today the Mariners have now lost 5 strait games, the final 2 games from the Cleveland Indians series and the 3 from the Yankees. Three of those games were because of two things 1: the Mariners can’t get any offense going and 2 the Starting pitchers can’t go deep in games. For example Jarrod Washburn went 4 innings against the Indians on April 30th and the Mariners offence only scored 3 runs. The only game that the starting pitchers didn’t go deep into a game was on May 1st when Miguel Batista went 7 string innings and only giving up 1 run except when he left the game the Mariners hadn’t scored any runs.

Then on May 2nd Erik Bedard who the Mariners traded for to be there Ace went 7 strong innings giving up 1 run and striking out 6, but during those 7 innings the Mariners offence only scored 1 run. Then on May 3rd Felix Hernandez went only 5 innings giving up 6 runs but all 6 were earned runs and just like when Bedard was pitching the Mariners only scored 1 run. And then today Carlos Silva who hadn’t lost a game this season went only 3 innings giving up 8 earned runs but this time there was a sight of hope because the Mariners offence scored 2 runs on the home run by Adrian Beltre in the 1st inning. Now it looks like there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

In the rubber match of a three game series with the Cleveland Indians the Mariners had to go to extra innings to decide the winner. But first Mariners starter Miguel Batista went 7 innings giving up 1 run on 4 hits, walking 3 and striking out 6. The Mariners went score less into the top of the 9th inning until Ichiro scored on an error by Casey Blake. Then again in the top of the 10th inning Ritchie Sexson hit a towering home run to left field which was his 300th in his carear and his 100th home run as a Seattle Mariner. But then in the bottom of the 10th J.J Putz got the basses loaded with 1 out. Then J.J walked Grady Sizemore which forced in a run. Then Putz struck out David Dellucci and Casey Blake. Then in the bottom of the 11th inning Sean Green gave up a single to Asdrubal Cabrera which allowed Jason Michaels to score. The final score 3-2.

When Joe Roth and Drew Carey brought a new MLS team to Seattle they said that “The world’s game is coming to Seattle” and that’s just what is happening. On April 6 Seattle hosted Mexico vs China at Quest field (were the Seattle Sounders FC will play). Now Seattle is going to host the Brazil National team vs Canada’s National soccer team. When Mexico played China and won 1-0 there were 56,416 (I was one of them) fans. Now with Brazil with there famous bright yellow and green lined jerseys and the trio of KaKa, Ronaldinho and Robinho and Alexandre Pato there will be more fans and it will be louder the a Seahawks game with the famous 12th man (fans). Tickets go on sale next Monday at 10 AM.

The Seahawks added three players today. They have signed former University of  Washington DT Larry Tripplet, former New York Giants LB Wesley Mallard and claimed QB Dalton Bell off waivers. These moves just add depth and the best signing was Tripplet who will have out at DT.

My review of the Seahawks 2008 NFL draft. Seattle was very active with trades on day 1 of the draft.

1st round pick #28 (via Dallas): Lawrence Jackson DE University of Southern California.

Review: The Seahawks traded there 1st round pick 25th overall to the Dallas Cowboys for there 1st round pick 28th overall, 4th round pick and 5th round pick. The pick of Jackson was a little bit of a surprise to me. We all knew that the Seahawks we coming into the draft looking for defensive line help. Jackson is not a quick pass rushing defensive end. The upside to Jackson is the he has long arms to swat down balls. He is also versatile in that he can play defensive end and defensive tackle. The smart side of this pick is that the Seahawks defensive coordinator John Marshall likes to rotate players in and out and create different schemes.

2nd round pick 38th overall (via Baltimore Ravens): John Carlson TE Notre dame.

Review: The Seahawks traded there 2nd round pick and there 3rd round pick to the Ravens to move up and draft TE John Carlson. The Seahawks came into the draft with tight end as one the there biggest holes to fill. The Seahawks have never had a tight end that has worked on Mike Holmgren’s offence. Jeremy Stevens was a 1st round bust, the missed out on Daniel Graham who signed with the Denver Broncos and also missed out on Alge Crumpler this off-season who signed with the Tennessee Titans. A lot of people thought that Dustin Keller out of Purdue was going to be drafted by the Seahawks but Mike Holmgren said that Carlson fit the bill just right in that he can block and stretch the field. So this was a great pick for the Seahawks.

4th round pick 121st overall: Red Bryant DT Texas A&M.

Review: As I stated before with Lawrence Jackson the Seahawks came into this draft looking for a big run-stopping defensive tackle and that’s what the got with this pick. At 6′4 318 pounds Bryant fit the Seahawks wishes perfectly. Bryant will go right next to Rocky Bernard,Patrick Kerney and Darryl Tapp on the defensive line. So this was a great pick for the Seahawks.

5th round pick 163rd overall (via Dallas Cowboys): Owen Schmitt FB West Virginia.

Review: Fullback was not a need for the Seahawks but Schmitt will take the place of Mack Strong who retired during the season. If Schmitt will run the ball it would be in the short yard category. Schmitt will open up holes for Julius Jones and Maurice Morris (RB) that Leanard Weaver wouldn’t. So this pick is good and safe.

6th round pick189th overall: Tyler Schmitt LS San Diego State.

Review: Drafting Tyler Schmitt from SDSU makes a lot of sense because the Seahawks could never fine the right Long Snapper and they never could. But drafting Tyler Schmitt will give them a very talented and young long snapper. FYI a long snapper is the player that hikes the ball to punter.

7th round pick 233 overall: Justin Forsett RB California.

Review: Drafting Justin Forsett was a smart and safe pick because after bringing in Julius Jones from Dallas, T.J Duckett from Detroit and already having Maurice Morris adding Forsett give the Seahawks more younger legs in the backfield that struggled last season. Plus he will fill the reserve hole that happened after Alexander got cut. So this was a great pick.

7th round pick 235th overall: Brandon Coutu K Georgia.

Review: Drafting Coutu was smart because after letting Josh Brown go to the Rams in free agency will give us a young Josh Brown in that he has not missed a field goal in 109 attempts. That will help the Seahawks a lot. So this was a great pick by the Seahawks.
